Congratulations to our Founder and CEO Nick Lee for being selected as a finalist in the Australian of the Year Awards!
The South Australian finalists have just been announced and we’re so proud Nick is among them! He has been recognised for the contribution he’s made to bowel cancer prevention in Australia.
For those of you who haven’t heard our story… Nick started The Jodi Lee Foundation in August 2010, to raise awareness about bowel cancer and encourage Australians to screen for early detection of the disease.
Since then, we’ve made an enormous difference to bowel cancer prevention in Australia. Nick established Australia’s first national corporate bowel screening program and was successful in obtaining a $2.5 million Federal Government grant to launch Australia’s first truly national bowel cancer awareness campaign.
Nick has also developed important partnerships with businesses and other cancer organisations to build tools to aid the early detection of bowel cancer, such as a website to assess risk associated with family history called www.knowyourrisk.org.au, and a clinical decision-making aid for screening bowel symptoms in community pharmacies.
Although Jodi’s death is still very emotional for Nick to speak about, he tells the story repeatedly to motivate people to be proactive about bowel cancer prevention. He’s truly an inspiration.
Congratulations Nick!
