Kay-A-Day was a great success this year with over 6,000 students from 25 schools taking part.
Designed to combat the trend of sedentary behavior in young people, Kay-A-Day encourages school students to run or walk a kilometre a day for 21 days – the distance of a half marathon.
Students were delighted to receive visits from our ambassadors, including Olympic marathon runner Jessica Trengove, Adelaide Football Club star Scott Thompson, Port Adelaide defender Tom Jonas, Brumbies Rugby Union player Jarrad Butler, and Ten News Weather Presenter Kate Freebairn. We thank these wonderful supporters for taking time out of their busy schedules to encourage kids to be physically active.
We were thrilled to receive feedback from teachers reporting high levels of student engagement, and parents noticing improved fitness levels in their children. As well as these health benefits, there are social, emotional and intellectual benefits associated with being physically active and limiting sedentary behaviour – physical activity helps kids do better at school!
The top five individual Kay-A-Day fundraisers at each participating school received an activity tracker. The highest individual fundraising boy and girl were both from Jubilee Primary School and we were proud to present them with a Smiggle backpack each, packed full of fabulous products.
Our thanks go to The Bennelong Foundation, Network Ten and OMO for sponsoring Kay-A-Day.
Kay-A-Day will be taking place in Terms 3 and 4 again next year. For more information, click here.
